 | AEG Live, who provide entertainment content worldwide, successfully certified their latest event to BS8901 in July 2012. This British Standard is now being replaced by the international standard and will convert to ISO20121 by the end of 2012. |
The O2 has developed a strong framework around sustainability where the operational activities of The O2 affect the environment and local community. As The O2 receives over 7 million visitors a year, AEG understand the impacts on the environment and what measures can be put in place to mitigate those impacts. The four key areas that form the basis of our sustainability programme are energy efficiencies, recycling and waste minimisation, transport planning and community engagement.
The O2 has been awarded GOLD accreditation by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS), a national sustainable tourism scheme, accredited by VisitBritain and the Mayor of London.
The O2 was assessed against a rigourous set of criteria which covered energy and water efficiency, waste management and biodiversity. The judges were particularly impressed with waste minimisation systems, the comprehensive travel plans for visitors and staff, and the energy monitoring efficiencies. The O2's accessibility programmes were also cited as an area of innovation.
