Big Gig is The Cure for Franz Ferdinand

Franz Ferdinand to perform alongside The Cure, White Lies & Crystal Castles at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig at The O2.

On the eve of Franz Ferdinand kicking off the Shockwaves NME Awards Shows we are happy to announce that they will join the already eclectic line-up at this year's Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig at The O2 on Thursday 26 February where they will be sharing the stage with legendary band The Cure, White Lies and Crystal Castles - making this a night of live music not to be missed...

Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand said of playing. "We've always fancied playing the millennium dome and it's great to share the stage with The Cure - one of the greatest British bands of the last 30 years."

NME and Mercury Award winning Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand now complete the line up for the second Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig, and will be giving lucky fans a taster of their new material from their upcoming third album, 'Tonight: Franz Ferdinand', as well as performing some of their classic tracks.

Hamish MacBain, Reviews Editor said: "The Big Gig will be the first chance anyone in the UK gets to hear Franz's new songs live - as well as all the favourites, of course. Their set will also provide some light between bouts of dyed-black dark majesty from The Cure, Crystal Castles and White Lies. It's one hell of a line up."

Canadian duo Crystal Castles and White Lies, fresh off the Shockwaves NME Awards Tour, have the honour this year of warming up the crowd at London's The O2 arena with God Like Genius recipients The Cure headlining the night and playing a full ninety-minute set, following what will no doubt be a typically exuberant Franz Ferdinand performance.

Following on from the Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig's sterling debut last year, the bar has been raised even higher and fans can look forward to an unforgettable night of live music with four of the hottest bands on the planet.

The Shockwaves NME Awards Big Gig will take place on February 26 2009 at The O2 arena in London. Tickets are priced at £30.
