Gymnastics Worlds: British Team Nominative Announcement

The Nominative British Team for the 2009 World Championships has been announced:
The WAG Team will be Beth Tweddle, Becky Downie, Becky Wing and Marissa King.
The MAG Team will be Louis Smith, Daniel Keatings, Kristian Thomas, Daniel Purvis, Theo Seager and Ruslan Panteleymonov.

Tim Jones, British Gymnastics Olympic Performance Director said: "We are pleased to have such a strong group of gymnasts available to represent Great Britain at these World Championships. This is a great time to be competing on home soil in the run up to London 2012 and we will be encouraging our performers to learn from the experience. We will all be working as hard as possible to ensure that we maximise this opportunity".

These gymnasts are the Nominative entry that British Gymnastics make to the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) in time for the 9 September deadline. Changes to the competing line-ups may still take place, as will decisions referring to apparatus; formal and final announcements on these will be made at a later date.

The line-ups

The Women's Team are set to be led by 2006 World Asymmetric Bars Champion, 7 times British Champion and double-Olympian (4th A. Bars, Beijing) Beth Tweddle (24) from the City if Liverpool, along with Becky Downie (17) of Notts, the current British Senior Champion and Beijing Olympian who finished a record breaking 12th place in the all-around event.

They will be joined by fellow Beijing Olympians, Heathrow's Rebecca Wing (17) and Huntingdon's Marissa King (18).

On the Men's; side, Louis Smith (20), Bronze medallist on the Pommel Horse in Beijing 2008 and the last World Championships in Stuttgart 2007, will be a major attraction as will Huntingdon team-mate Daniel Keatings (19) who finished 20th in the all-around event in Beijing and runner up in the all-around at the 2009 European Championships.

Joining them are 2008 British Senior Champion Kristian Thomas, 20 (Earls- Birmingham), 2006 European Junior all-around Bronze medallist, Daniel Purvis, 18 (Southport YMCA), Theo Seager 19, a member of the 2008 Junior European Championships winning Team and Ruslan Panteleymonov, 26 (Hinckley) who makes his first appearance for the British Team after a year of successful Grand Prix outings.
