Metallica return to The O2
Metallica set to play full tour of the UK for the first time since October 1996, including another night at The O2 on Monday 2 March 09.Following on from their enormously popular fans-only charity gig at The O2 in September, Metallica are set to play a full tour of the UK for the first time since October 1996, including another night at The O2 on Monday 2 March. They will be performing in the round and tickets will go on sale at 9am this Friday October 24th. Supporting will be Machine Head and The Sword. The band recently released the 12th album in their 27 year career which marked their unprecedented reign as THE greatest hard rock band in history. “Death Magnetic” hit the No. 1 slot in 32 countries. It stormed to the top of the UK charts where it remained for 2 weeks, making it their third UK No.1 album. “Death Magnetic” has held onto pole position in the European charts for FIVE weeks now, and not even the release of a new Oasis album could shake it! The band said “we can't wait to visit the UK again, so strap in, hang on, and get ready for the nuttiness to begin.” Metallica have just been nominated for two awards at the forthcoming MTV Europe awards for the "Rock Out" and "Headliner" categories. David Campbell, Chief Executive of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2, said: “I’m thrilled we can welcome Metallica back to The O2 – the atmosphere they create is electric. Their last gig was not only The O2’s biggest ever but they raised over £60,000 for Youth Music who will be spending the money on projects across Greenwich.” Tickets are available from 0844 856 0202 and www.theo2.co.uk/event/metallica-20090302.html and cost £45.
