Music Week Awards Name The O2 Venue of the Year

Further industry recognition for world’s most popular venue

The O2 scooped both the Venue of the Year and the Music and Brand Partnership of the Year accolades at last night's Music Week Awards in London.

The win follows The O2's success at the Pollstar Industry Awards earlier in the year where it beat off all competition to be voted both Best International Arena and Best New Major Concert Venue of the Year.

Since opening just 9 months ago The O2 has gained a reputation worldwide for hosting some of the biggest live music acts around such as Justin Timberlake, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, 9 nights of Take That, 17 nights of Spice Girls and the legendary Barbra Streisand, plus gig of the decade - Led Zeppelin. Prince made The O2 his home during the summer to play 21 sold out nights in the arena which became the world's highest grossing music arena after its first quarter.

The Eagles have just launched their world tour with 5 nights at The O2 and coming up - Celine Dion, Dolly Parton, Neil Diamond, 7 nights of Kylie, Viva La Diva, a classical series to be announced shortly, plus a lot more.

Reflecting on the awards David Campbell, CEO of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2 said, "We have had an unprecedented opening season and are truly privileged to have worked with so many wonderful artists, promoters, managers, partners and of course staff to make and continue to make The O2 the world class venue it is."

Commenting on the win, Sally Cowdry, Marketing Director, O2 UK said: "We are immensely proud of our partnership with AEG and feel that together we have created a unique, exciting venue. To be named Music Week’s Venue of the Year is a remarkable achievement, especially when you consider The O2 only launched in June. However, we pride ourselves on not resting on achievements and with initiatives like priority ticketing for all O2 customers; we believe 2008 will see The O2 go from strength to strength."

The O2 also won Venue of the Year at both the ILMC (International Live Music Conference) and TPI (Total Production Industry) awards earlier this year. On Wednesday night The O2 picked up Building Innovation of the Year at the Property Week Awards.
