Pollstar figures for 2010 once again place The O2 as the world's number one music venue with a huge 1, 737,654 tickets sold last yearThe Pollstar industry listings chart shows The O2 arena‘s year end ticket sales beat their nearest competitor, Madison Square Garden, by over 50%. The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “Not only does this amazing venue beat the competition hands down for the fourth year running; its ticket sales are a whopping 50 per cent higher than that citadel of entertainment, Madison Square Gardens. The incredible success of The O2 is a tribute to its excellent management and staff who continue to attract world class events and global stars to keep it in top spot." Gary Bongiovanni, Editor-In-Chief for Pollstar, commented: “The O2 arena in London has once again proven to be the most popular concert venue in the world. The arena dwarfed the competition by selling more than 1.7 million tickets in 2010 to further cement its place as an essential stop for any major worldwide tour.” David Campbell, President and Chief Executive of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2, added: “We are immensely proud of what The O2 has achieved. Venue highs in 2010 included nights of Black Eyed Peas, Gorillaz, Rihanna, Arcade Fire, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, Lady Gaga and a 12 night residency from Bon Jovi as well as venue exclusives such as the 25th Anniversary performance of Les Miserables, the venue’s first opera in the form of Bizet’s Carmen and the return of the highly successful Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. This year is looking like being even stronger for The O2 with more exclusive and top class content coming up including the UK’s biggest and most prestigious music awards, The BRIT’s, and the venue’s first ballet, Romeo and Juliet. Along with dates from Glee Live, Roger Waters, Usher, Batman Live and a host of comedians including Alan Carr, Lee Evans and a one night only performance by Jerry Seinfeld, 2011 is set to be an exciting year for The O2.
