The prestigious MOBO Awards, in association with Western Union, return for their 12th annual ceremony in the state of the art O2 arena. This will be the first star-studded Awards Show to be held at the impressive venue.

The MOBO Organisation will unveil this year’s nominees on the 22nd August. It will include categories for Best UK Female, Best UK Male, Best Newcomer, Best African Act, Best International Act, Best Reggae, Best Song, Best Video, Best Hip Hop, Best R’n’B, Best Jazz, Best Gospel and Best DJ.

After the nominations have been announced, the public can vote for their favourite nominees on the MOBO website.

Kanya King, MOBO Founder and CEO, said: “We are pleasantly surprised with the increased support from the record companies at a time when their circumstances are becoming more challenging. Also more interest from leading radio stations as well as other organisations indicates growing support overall for MOBO and its family of artists.”

“It promises to be a dynamic show with lots of great names on the bill, most of who will be in the arena at The O2 for the first time. Celebrities of various walks of life have been showing a keen interest to present awards to the category winners – it is going to be a memorable spectacle.”

David Campbell, CEO of AEG, owner of The 02, said: “I’m delighted that MOBO have decided to host their awards at The 02. The awards are one of the biggest dates in the music industry calendar and are a great addition to our already impressive opening season.”

This year MOBO is not just about the glamour of the awards night. The MOBO Organisation is determined to make a difference after the 19th September by helping Britain ’s next generation to fulfil their amazing potential.

A MOBO Foundation will be set up that will focus on addressing barriers facing ethnic minority candidates for employment and entrepreneurship in the music industry. Plans further include a MOBO Trade Association for the music industry.

Working in partnership with existing music business trade associations and community organisations, this will mark a new era for MOBO and the communities it seeks to support.

This year therefore marks another exciting new phase for the MOBO Organisation and its involvement in British music and our rising talent.

Tickets are on sale here with a starting price of £20.00. The first standard 1,000 tickets come with a limited edition MOBO T-shirt.

N.B The nominations launch will be attended by among others platinum selling reggae artist Shaggy and one of Britain’s biggest R’n’B stars Jamelia, both previous MOBO Awards winners.
