The O2 arena Races Ahead of Competition to No.1 Global Position

The O2, the world's number one entertainment destination, has confirmed its position yet again as the most popular music arena on the planet.

The latest Pollstar arena figures show The O2 arena has Quarter 1 ticket sales of almost half a million (471,489). The nearest competitor, also in the UK, has ticket sales of 257,996 – more than 200,000 less than The O2.

The figures are based on ticket sales for the first three months of 2008. Contributing to The O2's success was 17 nights by the Spice Girls, the first 5 nights of the Eagles' world tour, Linkin Park, Strictly Come Dancing Live, Alicia Keys, West Life, Rihanna, X Factor Live and the Shockwaves NME Big Gig.

David Campbell, Chief Executive of AEG Europe, owners and operators of The O2 commented: "Since we opened in June 2007 The O2 has wowed the crowds with enviable content and a great all-round concert experience. We knew 2007 was a good year, and as the latest figures show we could not have started 2008 better. These figures are testament to the great time people are having at the venue, and we'll keep putting the world-class content in so our customers will return over and over again."

The rest of the year sees yet more world-class stars grace The O2, from Celine Dion to Bryan Adams, to Girls Aloud to Neil Diamond, to Mary J Blige to 7 nights of Kylie Minogue. And much more to be announced soon.
