The O2 arena Triumphs Again at Industry Awards
The O2 arena collected the 'Favourite Venue of the Year' award at the prestigious Total Production Industry (TPI) Awards this week for the second time since the venue's opening in 2007. The event was presented by Chris Evans, who described it as one of the biggest award of the night.The O2 arena beat off competition from The O2 Academy Brixton, The Roundhouse, The Royal Albert Hall and The O2 Academy Shepherd's Bush, to secure the TPI award which was voted for by members of the industry, including technical, production, security and catering. The award was accepted on behalf of AEG by Caroline McNamara, Head of Sales, and Dan Waite, Head of Programming at The O2. On being presented the award, Caroline McNamara said, "On behalf of David Campbell, AEG and everyone who works at The O2, thank you to the TPI and everyone who voted for us. This is wonderful". Dan Waite added thanks to "all the companies here tonight whose exceptional talents have contributed to making The O2 arena Favourite Venue". This award comes a month after The O2 topped Pollstar's ticket sales chart for 2009 with a staggering 2,349,252 tickets sold last year. The O2 sold 75% more tickets than any other venue worldwide with just two other venues selling over a million tickets. It also smashed its previous record of 1,806,447 tickets by 30%.
