The O2 arena Triumphs at Pollstar Awards
The O2 arena Triumphs at Pollstar Awards Industry nod to world's most popular music venue Fourth Consecutive YearLONDON, Monday 7th Feb 2011: The O2 arena in London has beaten off all competition to be voted Best International Arena of the Year at the Pollstar Concert Industry Awards in LA at the weekend. The award, which was voted for by the industry, has been won every year by The O2 arena since the venue opened in 2007. Accepting the award Sally Davies, Event Director, The O2, said: "We are very proud to win again this year and thank everyone in the industry who has brought us great events. Without world class artists, performances, events and productions we wouldn't be where we are today." Since opening The O2 has taken the music world by storm and has consistently hosted the world's best music, sport and entertainment. Venue highs in 2010 included nights of Black Eyed Peas, Gorillaz, Rihanna, Arcade Fire, Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, Lady Gaga and a 12 night residency from Bon Jovi as well as venue exclusives such as the 25th Anniversary performance of Les Miserables, the venue's first opera in the form of Bizet's Carmen and the return of the highly successful Barclays ATP World Tour Finals. Reflecting on the win Davies added, "We are thrilled to be recognised by the industry for what we have achieved - to win every year since opening is unprecedented. A massive well done to all involved and we'll work hard to be here next year." Last month Pollstar figures for 2010 placed The O2 as the world's number one music venue with a huge 1, 737,654 tickets sold last year - more than any other arena in the world. The Pollstar industry listings chart showed The O2 arena's year end ticket sales beat their nearest competitor, Madison Square Garden, by over 50%. This year is looking like being even stronger for The O2 with more exclusive and top class content coming up including the UK's biggest and most prestigious music awards, The BRIT's, and the venue's first ballet, Romeo and Juliet. Along with dates from Glee Live, Roger Waters, Usher, Batman Live and a host of comedians including Alan Carr, Lee Evans and a one night only performance by Jerry Seinfeld, 2011 is set to be an exciting year for The O2. |
