A cult band in its own right, the group has amalgamated Indian folk music with Western soft rock. The band members have denied any limitations to their personal craft that might arise due to the demands of hitting the mainstream.

They are the sound of contemporary India getting to know itself.
Some music critics describe the Indian Ocean Band as Indo-rock fusion with jazz-spiced rhythms that integrates shlokas, Sufism, environmentalism, mythology and revolution.
