The Ultimate celebration of Street Dance 2010
Friday 22nd January 2010 at IndigO2, The O2, London
Kymberlee Jay presents the ultimate street dance celebration featuring the UK’s leading dance companies and international guest choreographers. This exciting showcase takes place for one night only at the prestigious IndigO2, at The O2 in London. Performance companies include Boy Blue Entertainment (Lawrence Olivier award winning hip hop dance company), Plague (Presented by Cirque Du Soleil Las Vegas Choreographer Mukhtar Omar), Dance 2XS (leading international dance company), Nike D-Clash (UK’s leading all female freestyle dance crew). With over 2000 Street Dance lovers under one roof, this promises to be the largest and most inspirational celebration of Street Dance in 2010. The Director:Kymberlee Jay is renowned in the entertainment industry for being the very first plus sized professional Street Dancer and Choreographer in the UK. After being told by various industry experts that there would be absolutely no place for her in the world of entertainment due to her plus size frame, Kymberlee silenced her critics and went on to work with artists including UK girl band Misteeq (Alesha Dixon), Girls Aloud band member Cheryl Cole and Queen of Pop Madonna. Kymberlee now has an Athlete contract with sporting giant Nike, inspiring performers and teaching across the UK and Europe.
Street Dance:
Street Dance literally gained its title from the "street" - the location where many of the popular techniques originated. It is the umbrella term for dance styles that were developed in an outdoor inner-city environment (as oppose to in the indoor studios where many classical and contemporary styles were studied) by young people from the late 70's and onwards. Street Dance styles include Bboying (break dancing), Funk styles (Popping and Locking), House Dance, as well as routine choreography of an "urban" nature, which now includes elements of New Jack Swing, NY Style, Jazz Funk and Gymnastics. Street Dance is now the most prolific dance style in the UK, with a huge industry following. Forms of Street Dance styles can be seen in many music videos, backing major label music artists across the globe. More recently it has become the theme for Hollywood movie projects and reality television shows.
