The O2 honours Elton John’s 10-night run with special award for his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour

To commemorate an incredible 10 shows at The O2 this April and May, the world’s most popular live entertainment, leisure and retail destination presented Elton John with a special award on Tuesday evening at his final show of the run, and last ever tour show in London.

The award, which has been created Jesmonite, a sustainable material which can be crushed and reused, features imagery of Elton’s shows at the venue, along with a piece of The O2’s own tent fabric. Alongside Elton, awards were also presented to the teams involved in his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, including representatives from Rocket Entertainment, Marshall Arts and AEG Presents.

Across the 10 shows, which saw over 170,000 tickets sold, The O2 was transformed in tribute to the Rocket Man himself, with a yellow brick road taking fans from North Greenwich station to The O2‘s main entrance. Inside the venue, a huge 5m wide pair of Elton’s iconic sunglasses hung from the roof to delight fans on arrival, sustainable paper cups featuring tour artwork were available on the arena concourses, and an additional merchandise store was opened – ‘Farewell Elton at The O2’ – where fans could shop a full range of tour merchandise complete with specially designed t-shirts and posters, exclusively available at The O2.

Christian D’Acuña (Senior Programming Director at The O2) said: “Being able to celebrate a true music legend in a special way was hugely important for all of us at The O2. Elton John’s final tour is certainly one for the history books, and we’re truly honoured to have hosted 10 nights of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour. The shows have been incredible from start to finish throughout the whole run – from the onstage performance by Elton and his band to the perfectly curated set list, and we’ve received some of the best feedback we’ve ever had on any show from managers, agents and promoters in attendance.”

“Being able to transform the venue into a massive tribute to Elton for his show dates, with our very own yellow brick road, created some truly special moments for fans and staff at the venue. A huge thank you to the teams at Rocket Entertainment, Marshall Arts and AEG Presents, and of course to the legend himself, Elton – the final show this week is one we’ll never forget.”

Adding to The O2’s strong line-up of global superstars taking to the stage this year, the venue will also host headline performances from Madonna, SZA, Shania Twain, Blink-182, UFC, S Club and many more.

An ever-evolving, day out destination, The O2 is also home to the roofwalk experience Up at The O2, Outlet Shopping with over 60 designer brands at up to 70% off RRP, London’s largest Cineworld, over 30 bars and restaurants and much more. Located just 15 minutes from central London, there’s plenty to enjoy pre and post show, all under one iconic roof.
