Sıla Gençoğlu was born on 17th of June 1980, in İzmir. She studied at İzmir Tevfik Fikret Schools. During her high school years, she took singing lessons. For university, she got into İstanbul University, Faculty of Arts, French Language and Literature. After a year of studying in İstanbul University, she got transferred to İstanbul Bilgi University, Jazz – Vocal Department. She studied with Nükhet Ruacan for voice training and started to work with Kenan Doğulu (a well known Turkish singer) as his back-vocal. During this time, some of the songs that Sıla has written have took their place in other singers albums and she continued working for her own album.
Sıla published her first album, by the name Sıla, on 23rd of October 2007. ‘Till now, she has had 6 studio albums and 1 DVD – Audio-CD Project out. Sıla wrote all her songs in her albums with Efe Bahadır. For her 10th year as a singer, she published a poetry book called “Anlatsam Geçer mi?” (Will it go away if I tell you) and a single called “Muhbir”.
